As the most beloved oenological creation of Castello di Montepò, this label embodies all the organoleptic qualities of the Sangiovese Grosso BBS 11, the exclusive clone owned by the Biondi Santi family. A fresh, round and dynamic wine, takes its name from one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks: an imposing glacial erratic which has inspired many local legends.

Grape variety: Sangiovese

Vinification: refinement 14 months in untoasted wood barriques in the forests of Troncais.

Tasting notes: The Sassoalloro is a distinctive red wine blend with a firm mineral vein that runs straight through. Dusty tones of crushed granite and pencil shavings emerge immediately from the bouquet. Once they lift, they reveal subtle fruit tones that recall wild raspberry and red currant. Added notes of spice and tobacco round off the finish. The finish is medium and the wine should evolve over the next five years.

Food pairing: meat, poultry, smoked meat products

Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Serving temperature: 16-18°C

Awards: Wine Enthusiast 92/100, Gilbert & Gaillard 92/100
