Nestled in the northern part of Italy, Valtellina is a small but remarkable wine-producing area with a long history and a unique character. Its most famous grape is Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca — the same grape behind Piedmont's renowned Barolo and Barbaresco, which here takes on a unique character thanks to the region's terroir and microclimate. The Carterìa vineyard covers 3 hectares in the Valgella sub-zone at 500 metres; its name comes from a small hamlet in the commune of Teglio, where the Fay family has always owned some plots. The winery has begun incorporating this land into its estate, and replanting of the vines is under way.
