Winner of many prestigious wine awards. Maja is more than a wine or a label — it's the name of the mountain (the Majella) that gives the Montepulciano area its extraordinary climate, and its extraordinary grapes.
Grape variety: Montepulciano
Vinification: hand-harvested from the second half of October, with long fermentation at controlled temperature. The wine rests 9 months in steel on the fine lees, then matures 30 months in small French oak barrels and at least 6 months in bottle before release.
Tasting notes: Intense, dark, almost impenetrable red. Ripe dark cherry, plum and blackcurrant, with elegant tertiary notes of tobacco, vanilla, liquorice and black pepper. The balance between softness and tannin gives a clean, harmonious finish.
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Food pairing: a meditation wine, but best with red meats, grilled lamb, rib-eye steak and mature cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16–18°C.
