A red from the Maremma — Montenero d'Orcia, 300 m above sea level, on clay-rich soil — that captures the essence of the region's terroir. A real insider tip from Tuscany.
Grape variety: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano and Alicante
Vinification: manual harvest with careful selection of the best bunches. The four varieties ferment separately in short, wide 37-hl stainless steel tanks below 28°C. Ageing: 12 months, mainly in used 500-litre tonneaux; the blend is assembled a month before bottling.
Tasting notes: Intense, youthful purple-red. The peppery Alicante and the pyrazines of Cabernet lead, framed by noble spice from the barrels; the sweetness of Merlot is nicely balanced by the structure of Montepulciano. Tasty fruit carries into a long, involving finish.
Food pairing: red-meat main courses, mature cheeses, soups.
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Serving temperature: 16–18°C.
